ClearContext - the outlook saviour? - a review

I receive tons of e-mails each day. The only way I found in the past to be able to 1- find the mails afterwards when I need them and 2 – be aware of the mails I’ve treated and the ones that still need to be treated, was archiving the mails in specific folders, related to each of the numerous projects, teams and organizations I have to deal with. I really wanted to be aware of how many mails I received and sent every day (splitting them into folders didn’t make this job possible at all), to realize how much “work” I did each day and why at the end of the days it felt like nothing had been done.

That’s when I decided I should find some sort of tool to help me count my e-mails. I’ve tried some tools, but they didn’t work as I expected nor as I needed. Furthermore, they took a long time to generate the reports, and didn’t have a way to compare each day with the previous ones. No help!

So I kept searching over and over again. I then found ClearContext. I must say that at first I didn’t really believe it would help me either. I just wanted a tool to count my e-mails, what would I do with the extra features? And having to configure all that? But it was true it took me ages to scroll the folders list up and down and I didn’t seem to be able to keep up with the mails! And, above all, it wouldn’t hurt just to try it. So I did.

I’ve installed it, and begun being able to see how many mails I received each day, how many mails I sent, how many of those were answers, what was my workload and how well was I dealing with my inbox as a whole. Furthermore, it showed the global average, a comparison with the other users. This at first made me think I couldn’t do as well as others, but on the other hand it shown me my workload was above average. The assisted archive of mails also proved to be really handy. I probably spare over 1 hour a day just not having to scroll the folder’s list up and down every time I want to archive another e-mail!

 

It’s a keeper for sure!

Ontem apeteceu-me escrever um "amontoado de palavras"*. Há muito que não escrevia nenhum. Fui até procurar os antigos e deparei-me com coisas de que já não me lembrava, mas que relembrei de imediato. Mesmo uma música que fiz baseada num desses amontoados me veio à cabeça.

É engraçado o que a nossa mente guarda nos baús mas tem capacidade de repescar em caso de necessidade.

Um dia tenho que juntar estas coisas e fazer qualquer coisa com elas...

Vou partilhar convosco um dos mini-amontoados que escrevi, talvez em 1995 ou 1996:

É incrível como,
do outro lado do espelho,
tudo parece mais luminoso
e límpido
... sendo tudo a mesma realidade.


* conjunto de palavras distribuidas numa folha de papel em formato quase de poema, mas sem respeitar tamanhos de estrofes ou métricas ou rimas

Se calhar espero mesmo mais das pessoas do que é suposto. Se não fosse assim, porque ficaria entristecida por não me darem o retorno esperado?

Mais uma vez preciso de pensar sobre isto.
Se calhar chegarei finalmente a uma conclusão.
Se calhar não.

Se calhar não temos um poder consciente assim tão grande sobre o nosso próprio grau de exigência e somos meros espectadores do sentimento provocado pela constatação das atitudes dos outros.

Ou então teremos o poder de mudar.... mas nesse caso, quanto poderemos mudar sem deixar de ser nós?

E depois ainda há outra questão: será que um telefonema (um mail, um twitt, um post - cada vez o leque é maior...), ou a falta dele, são coisas assim tão importantes?

Sismo em Lisboa, 17/12, 01h41m

Bolas, há 10 minutos atrás senti um sismo. Eu acho que não durou mais que uns 5 segundos. Uns amigos meus disseram q foi pelo menos meio minuto: que atravessaram a casa toda para se juntarem e ficaram debaixo de uma ombreira da porta... uma carrada de tempo. A percepção de tempo é efectivamente muito pessoal. Eu cá nem cheguei a levantar-me da cadeira, de tão rápido que foi.

Só tinha sentido um outro tremor de terra com uma idadezinha, há muitos anos, e estava sentada no chão. E ainda um outro quando era mesmo pequenina, com toda a gente a sair do prédio para a rua, em pijama...

De certeza que o grau foi pequeno, ou o epicentro longe, mas é certo que assusta na mesma.

Não saí da cadeira, não deu tempo para raciocinar, porque foi muito breve. Mas a verdade é que é nestas alturas que me parece que não estamos preparados para estas situações. Será que fui eu que não reagi suficientemente rápido?

Esperemos que não haja réplicas!

Papel higiénico que vale por dois?

Este fim-de-semana estive no corredor do papel higiénico de um supermercado.

Voltei a ficar estupefacta com os rolos que valem por dois.

Ora, eu lembro-me da altura em que um rolo durava um tempo de jeito. E de, progressivamente, e sempre pelo mesmo preço, cada rolo durar cada vez menos, tendo cada vez menos folhas.

Em qualquer dos casos, raramente os rolos dizem quantas folhas têm, quantos pedacinhos picotados...

Agora chega a uma altura em que os fabricantes fazem um rolo que dizem ter o dobro das folhas, apesar de continuar a não dizer qual é o valor "normal" nem qual o tal "duplo".

E, se se reparar bem, estes rolos especiais já devem representar uma metade dos rolos expostos.

Qual é o próximo passo? Que todos digam que são o dobro virtual de rolos que não se sabe quando existiram?

É difícil escolher a roupa certa

Está frio ou está calor?
Há reuniões hoje?
Algum evento especial?
Que tom?
Qual a cor da mala em que as coisas estão neste momento?
Há tempo para mudar as coisas para outra mala?
OK, pronto, fica esta.
Mas então calças ou saia?
Quais? Uff... escolhidas!
Umh... e agora?
Ai! T-shirt? Alças? Cavas? Muito curta? Muito comprida?
Bem, finalmente esta está bem. Fantástico!
Wow, problema, há casacos ou agasalhos que combinem com isto? Sim? Não?
E sapatos? Os rasos deixam as calças a arrojar pelo chão? Os de salto? Quais?

Este relato é um pequeno extracto das dúvidas existenciais que se levantam de manhã...

A vida era menos colorida, mas definitivamente mais simples se houvesse só 2 pares de sapatos, uma mala, menos espelhos e menos gente a falar sobre a obrigação de andar bem vestida :)

Isto para dar a conhecer aqueles que, por enquanto, se escaparam de ouvir no meu carro a música da Amélie-les-crayons, "la garde robe d'elizabeth". Absolutamente fantástica! Ao vivo ou o clip, não importa, vejam que vale a pena.
